MANHUNT Book Discussion will start on FEBRUARY 10. Manhunt, the 12-Day Chase for Lincoln’s Killer is a New York Times best seller. A three-session discussion will be held Tuesdays, Feb. 10-24, 12:15-1:00 PM in the Mansbach Library, College Drive Campus. The discussion is open to ACTC students, faculty, staff and adult area residents. Preregistration through the Library is required, and books are available. The program is supported by a grant from the Kentucky Humanities Council, Inc. through funds from the Kentucky Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission (kylincoln.org). The 2008 ACTC Presidential Mock Election

Students,

Next week the Library will sponsoring a Mock Presidential Election. In order to vote you MUST show your student ID card. The election is open to all students with an ACTC ID regardless of age.

The voting schedule is as follows:

TECHNOLOGY DRIVE VOTING Monday October 27th 10AM-2PM in the VENDING AREA
COLLEGE DRIVE VOTING October 28 & 29th (all day) in the LIBRARY
ROBERTS DRIVE VOTING October 30th 10AM-2PM in the RDC LIBRARY

We hope you will participate and the winners will be announced on Friday october 31!

Mock Election!

In the spirit of democracy the ACTC Library will hold a Mock Presidential Election on October 28 & 29! Students can come and show their Student ID at the front desk and receive an “official” ballot. Students are only permitted to vote once and the winner will be announced Thursday October 30th.

So get out and let your voice be heard! Practice voting for the big day November 4th and participate in the 2008 ACTC Mock Presidential Election!

A big "thank you" to all the students who made our Voter Registration Drive a success. We registered 47 students in Boyd and Greenup Counties and handed out another 40 cards to students in Elliott, Lawrence, and Carter Counties.

It is the final week of classes at ACTC and we will remain open our normal hours this week and Saturday. The Roberts Drive Library will close for the summer on Friday May 2.

During Finals Week the Library will be open on our normal schedule during the week but we will be closed on Saturday May 10th.

During the summer we will be closed on Saturday and only open limited hours throughout the week.

Pimp My Paper

As March gives way to April and the final weeks of class we know it's the time of year to really get to work on research papers. The Library has access to several excellent online databases for all your research needs. In addition to our physical book collection we have a virtually limitless collection of ebooks through NetLibrary:

For scholarly articles and journals look no further than the EBSCO (Electronic Journals Service) for thousands of articles.

We've also recently added the Oxford Reference Online to our collection of databases. The Oxford database provides access to thousands of articles from the world's most trusted sources. Articles are from Encyclopedias, Dictionaries and other Oxford publications. One of the really great features is that the articles are already cited for you to simply copy and paste onto your Works Cited page!

In addition to the above databases we have quite a bit more, like the awesome CQResearcher, which is the place to go if you need a topic to write about.

All of these databases are 100% free for you to use either from here in the library in the lab or at home. If you do use the databses at home some will require a log-in. Drop by the library and ask for the bookmark that has the log-ins and passwords to all our online databases. Using the information on the bookmark you will have access to the databases on your home PC/Mac/Laptop whenever you need them.

By using the Mansbach Library and our online databases your Research Paper will have officially been pimped.
